Join us this Thursday for the talk from the "Nerd Coach" -- Dr. Emma Williams. The talk will take place 15th February in Wolfson Lecture Theatre at the Department of Chemistry, starting at 6:00PM. The talk will be followed by a book signing event for Dr. Emma Williams' book "The Unique Guide for Women", and a dinner with the speaker. Abstract:
From wanting to be the next Stephen Hawking to being an author, coach and trainer my talk will focus on the career lessons learnt along the way. Undergrad physics, experimental physics PhD, medical MRI postdoc, researcher developer all at Cambridge until I moved out to run my own researcher development business. I've worked with researchers around the globe helping them to take positive, proactive career decisions. I occasionally find myself wondering 'am I still a physicist?' At one point it was a huge part of my identity and now it is part of my not so tragic backstory. I'll explore the three key threads in career decisions as well as asking the question 'Is how you describe yourself a simple label (what you are) or a true descriptor (who you really are)?'. Come prepared to join in!
Speaker Dinner Sign-up 🖊️
After each talk CUWPS will invite the speaker to join the committees for a casual dinner at a local restaurant. This year we would like to share this opportunity with our members, so that we can stimulate networking and conversation both with the speaker, committee members and among the cohort.
However, due to limited dining spaces, we can only offer 5 places to our members. The selection follows a first come first serve basis and will prioritise those who are taking physics and related degrees and have not attended speaker dinners before.
