Hannah Stern

I am studying defects in 2D optoelectronic materials, for use as single photon emitters in quantum technologies.

What's one piece of advice you wish you could've told your younger self? Or what advice would you like to give to aspiring physicists?

Good things can take time. Sometimes when you are starting out in a research degree you expect results quickly, or want to quickly understand a field or an area. I found for me that some projects really took off after a lot of time investment. There were times at which I have felt disheartened during projects, but they have gone on to produce great results.

Anything else you'd like to share with us?

Over the years in Cambridge I have loved exploring the local area (especially during lockdown). New people should explore the bridleways that crisscross the fens, the wild swimming spots, the cute neighbouring villages.
